No More

I'm not used to this kind of talk on the Internet, but for the first time, I feel like I can say something through a painting. For the first time, I feel like I have to.

I'm there, watching the world being gradually destroyed by my kind, and as time passes, I know deep inside everything will end badly sooner than people think. I watch as they hide their face behind the veil of profit or just turn their look away from the truth. I watch as futility fills the lives of western countries populations while under developed countries struggle to catch up with us. How can they possibly be interested in the state of nature? How can you possibly think how not to destroy nature when you're starving?

I won't try to solve the problems myself. I just want to give you some facts:
faded jeans you like so much are made by using dozens of chemicals product which are most of the time rejected directly in the oceans
there are enough plastic wastes in the Pacific Ocean to build a country the size of France; depending on its size, plastic takes decades or hundred years to disappear
red tuna is on the brink of extinction, because eating sushis is now trendy and Japanese industry have to fish in all seas
ice caps melting is NOT a hoax
you probably never unplug your charger when the battery is full but unplug the device instead, letting the charger on the mains
you probably never turn off your TV and let it on standby
accessible oil world stock will be depleted in maximum 100 years for the most optimists
your electronic wastes are most likely sent to Guiyu (China) to be recycled by unprotected people who live in your wastes (and don't think it's environment friendly)

I could go one like this for dozens of pages and you probably know most of the other problems. Then I have a question for you: if you know, what do you do to prevent them? And don't answer you can't do anything all alone. It may be cliché, but it's true: everything counts. Change the way you think about things.

Take this as a new way of thinking: when you do something, ask yourself what can be the impact of a million people doing the same thing as you? You will probably realize how terrible a little thing can be at the scale of a country population. If you do realize, you will probably know what I mean. You want an example? Open a Coca. Now think about the amount of metal if a million people drink a Coca. Now let's say you don't trash it in a recycle bin. Take any percentage of the population who drinks a Coca and who will do like you. You now have an idea of the amount of waste.

I don't pretend to have a solution. I pretend that by changing the way you think about your impact on the world, you will realize you can do something.
